In the aftermath of the bet, the boar was gifted to Freyr, the god of harvest and fertility. In the Norse mythology, when Loki had bet his head that the dwarves, Brokkr and Eitri, would not been able to craft a better gift than the ones fashioned by the Sons of Ivaldi Brokkr and Eitri crafted Mjolnir, Draupnir, and the golden mane boar, Gullinbursti. Gullinbursti means "Gold Mane" in Old Norse. The affected farm plots will have small particle effects floating on top of them to indicate that they have already been buffed (not to be confused with the sparkling effect on the ground that comes from the Statue). Once the crops over the enhanced fields have matured and dropped their 12 coins, the ability can be reapplied on the same plots. The enhancement can only be used once per plot, and once per growth cycle. Each dig affects all nearby plots (up to 2 plots in each direction). Rooting on a farm plot accelerates the farm's growth by one level, and doubles the crop yield from 6 coins to 12 coins. The uncertain chance for coins to appear while the boar’s ability is activated is somewhat compensated for by the boar’s ability to feed multiple times in a row. However, unlike the unicorn, the boar’s coins have only an approximate 1-in-8 chance to appear. This is similar to the unicorn’s ability to "make" coins every time it grazes. While looking for food, the boar will sometimes find and dig out three coins for the Monarch to collect. It can keep walking, out of breath, forever, but if the player does not activate the special ability, it will never be able to run again. This means that an exhausted boar cannot simply walk for a while in order to go back to running. It does require an action by the player for the boar to feed and recharge it's stamina (see the table for the trigger).Īlso unlike all other mounts, the boar is unable to regain any level of stamina by walking instead of galloping. Unlike all other mounts, the boar will not feed itself if simply left resting. The boar will even just barely outrun the explosion on the last island, although the accompanying squad might not make it in time and be reduced to vagrants. Other mounts that cannot graze during the winter, like the stag, the fire horse, and possibily even the standard horse, are still overall better for moving around during the snowy days.Īlthough the boar is slow and tires easily, with its ability to "graze" anywhere it can still escape a cave explosion with very carefully timed activation of its special-ability to feed. It cannot overcome the animal's terrible speed and stamina. This ability isn't enough to make the golden boar a mount of choice when looking for mobility, even during the winter. It can be done anywhere on the island (including the forest), at any time of the day (including nighttime), and during all seasons (including winter). enhancing farms (speedup, and double coin output)īy rooting in the ground, the boar can replenish its stamina and receive the well-fed buff.finding coins (random chance of 3 coins, about 1/8 of the time). This ability has to be activated and comes with two potential benefits: The main ability of the boar is turning up the ground with its snout in search of food. Rooting the earth Trigger for the special ability The animal roars for a second and jumps off the altar.ĭown on the ground, it will display the option to pay with coins. The statue becomes organic with a portion of the gold becoming its armor. Once unlocked with gems, the idol comes alive. It requires three gems to unlock and twelve coins to ride. The boar can be found as a sacred golden idol over an altar, somewhere in the forest of the fifth island of the Norse Lands campaign.
